Register here. \nAlessandra Biaggi is the Democratic New York State Senator in her home district (Bronx/Westchester)\,  and Chair of the revived Ethics and Internal Governance Committee. The granddaughter of Italian immigrants who lived in Hunts Point\, she is the fourth generation of her family to live in District 34. Before launching her campaign\, she served in Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Counsel’s Office focusing on the New York State’s women’s policy agenda\, advocating for passage of the Reproductive Health Act and the Comprehensive Contraceptive Coverage Act. During the historic 2016 election\, Alessandra was the Deputy National Operations Director for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign\, overseeing a budget of $500 million\, 38 state directors and 45 associated staff. Her run for office was preceded by a decade of advocacy and service to the people of New York. She interned for the Kings County D.A.’s Office\, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York\, and was a legal fellow for New York State Homes and Community Renewal\, working to ensure that families across New York State had access to affordable housing. She served as Assistant General Counsel for Governor Cuomo’s Office of Storm Recovery\, working with small businesses and municipalities to rebuild New York after Hurricane Sandy. She was a 2015 New Leaders Council (NLC) fellow\, sat on NLC’s Advisory Board\, and is a member of The New Agenda’s Young Women Leadership Council. Alessandra attended Pelham public schools and holds degrees from New York University and Fordham Law School. She is also a graduate of the Women’s Campaign School at Yale University. \nAmanda Litman is the co-founder and executive director of Run for Something\, a PAC which recruits and supports young\, diverse progressives running for down-ballot office — since 2017\, they’ve elected more than 200 people across the country. She’s also the author of Run for Something: A Real Talk Guide to Fixing the System Yourself\, published by Simon & Schuster in 2017.

Register here now. \nMayor Yvonne Spicer is Mayor of Framingham\, MA.  Mayor Spicer was previously the Vice President for Advocacy and Educational Partnerships at Boston’s Museum of Science.  She started a teaching career in Framingham and rose to department chair before accepting a leadership position in the Newton district where she led initiatives to involve business leaders\, colleges and universities in new programs. She earned a Doctorate of Education in 2004 at UMass Boston\, and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humanities degree by the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. \nHeidi L. Sieck is the CEO and Co-founder of #VOTEPROCHOICE\, Previously\, Heidi was the founding Chief Operating Officer of Civic Hall and Democracy.com and interim Chief Operating Officer of Rock the Vote in Washington\, D.C. She served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the National Institute for Reproductive Health (formerly NARAL New York). She is an Advisory Board Member of MarchOn Sister March Network\, VoteRunLead and Emerge New York. Most recently\, Heidi was a partner of the Women’s March on Washington and a member of the Policy Table responsible for writing the intersectional Unity Principles.

SUMMARY:Power Rising Summit 2019
DESCRIPTION:The Power Rising Summit provides a space for Black women\, from coast to coast\, to come together as one. We will leverage our collective wisdom to develop strategic\, actionable ways to build and maximize our economic and political power—for the betterment of ourselves\, our families\, our communities\, and our future. At critical moments in history\, Black women have always found a way to come together\, define a new path forward\, and make an impact in ways that change the world.  However\, not since the Combahee River Collective statement was written 40 years ago have we assembled with the purpose of crafting an agenda explicitly for Black women that recognizes our unique needs. Black women are making strides in every sector\, from policy to politics\, from the classroom to the boardroom\, in front of the camera and behind the scenes. And yet\, there is more to do to ensure equity\, opportunity\, and representation for ourselves and our communities. It is in the tradition of the women who have gone before us – our grandmothers\, mothers\, sisters\, and aunties – and in the interest of those who will follow our path – our daughters\, our sisters\, and our nieces — that we come together again. This pivotal and urgent moment of political and social unrest calls us forward to unite Black women across ethnicity\, religion\, sexuality\, age\, political affiliation\, socioeconomic status\, and gender experience. The Power Rising Summit will provide a space for Black women to turn power into action and create an actionable agenda to be implemented in their communities and nationally that leverages our social\, political\, professional\, cultural and economic power and influence for the betterment of ourselves\, our communities and our country. The Summit will be organized around five key pillars of activism and engagement: Business & Economic Empowerment; Culture\, Community\, and Society; Education\, Technology\, and Innovation; Health & Wellness; and Political Empowerment. SUMMARY:NonProfit Vote Presents- Running for Office: A Primer for Nonprofit Leaders
DESCRIPTION:Nonprofits play a key role in democracy building through voter engagement efforts\, ensuring the people they serve are registered to vote and educated on the issues and races on the ballot. But nonprofit staff\, leaders\, and board members don’t need to sit on the sidelines of governance. Individuals working with nonprofits can and should consider running for office.\n\nOn January 31st\, Vote Run Lead\, Run for Office\, & NonProfit Vote will discuss how to pipeline leaders of the nonprofit sector who are ready to run for office. We’ll explain how the campaign process should go for 501c3 workers as well as what nonpartisan programs are available to assist and develop emerging candidates and propel them to success.\n\n\n\n\nPresented by Christina Sanders\n\n\nOne of America’s youngest civic engagement leaders\, her practical expertise is engaging and training women and young people to be involved and participate in elections\, voting and public policy. Christina was recently appointed to serve on the Texas advisory committee for the United States Commission for Civil Rights. In the Fall of 2013 she for ran for Houston City Council\, District D\, one of the city’s most under-served\, yet promising council district in Houston. Her campaign came in fourth in a crowded field of 12 candidates in the open-seat race.
