October 14, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Museum of the City of New York

Please join us on October 14th as we celebrate our past and move boldly into the future.

We will be celebrating this milestone at our Shirley Chisholm Lights of Freedom Award Reception on Monday, October 14th at 6 pm at the Museum of the City of New York, 1220 5th Avenue (between 103rd and 104th Streets). We would love it if you could support and come to the event.

As you know, CVH is a member-led organization that was started 25 years ago under the auspices of the Hunger Action Network of New York by eight New York City women who were fed up with the oppressive policies that were designed to keep them in poverty. They wanted to upend the existing power structures and build the power of women of color to transform the social safety net into a system that would enable low-income people to break out of poverty. CVH has since evolved into an organization that has been powerfully working to strengthen the power and civic engagement of people of color from New York City through the Hudson Valley.

At this year’s event, we will celebrate the power we have built and energize us for the battles that lie ahead. We will be honoring four people, who share our vision of power and are collaborators and allies in building the engagement and voices of low-income and working-class people of color.
