LMHQ Women’s Breakfast: Youth and Activism
Meet Generation Z: The country’s most diverse generation to date, made up of teenagers and college-aged students that comprise 25% of the U.S. population, outnumbering Millennials and Baby Boomers. As the first truly global generation, they’re culturally and politically passionate, on the cusp of entering the workforce. And they’re seeking revolution.
Join us at LMHQ for our April Women’s Breakfast about youth + activism, and how the rise of students’ voices affects our future political landscape. While student activism has a long history of leading to political change, we’ll be discussing what’s different today and how we can support these future leaders and activists. Whatever industry you currently work in – education, advertising, tech, media – it’s time to get educated about the how’s and why’s of youth activism including those fighting on behalf of themselves and their peers, those fighting for the rights of marginalized communities and for societal change at large. What tools are being built to empower and protect this generation, and what can we do to support them?
Hear from Erikka James, Director of Leadership and Global Programs at The Lower Eastside Girls Club, Catherine McCarthy, Education Program Manager at The Moth, Johanna Miller, Advocacy Director at NYCLU, and Tabitha St. Bernard-Jacobs, Women’s March’s Youth Initiatives Coordinator. Our conversation will be moderated by Erin Vilardi, Founder and CEO of Vote Run Lead. They’ll be speaking about anti-violence toolkits, school bathroom laws and the de-militarization of NYC public schools, the #ENOUGH initiative, and student workshops on storytelling that build empathy and give voice to a generation.
Doors open at 8:30 AM for bagels and coffee and an opportunity for networking, and our panel kicks off at 9:00 AM sharp. We can’t wait to see you!
