LESSONS FROM THE WINNING WOMEN OF TEXAS WITH ANNIE’S LIST ROYCE BROOKS
Royce Brooks has worked with many of the women who are breaking records in Texas. 2018 saw a record number of Democratic women elected to the Texas House and a record number of women in the Texas Senate. In fact, the 2018 incoming Texas House freshman class has more Democratic women than Republican men.
She will share what makes women such effective progressive leaders and help the audience think through ways they want to lead and how others have made these decisions..
Royce Brooks is the Executive Director of Annie’s List, a statewide organization dedicated to recruiting, training, supporting, and electing progressive women across Texas. Since joining Annie’s List as its Executive Director in July 2018, Fort Worth native Royce Brooks has led the organization to its most successful election cycle ever, with over 1000 women trained, a record 37 women endorsed, and a record 31 women elected, including every Annie’s List incumbent on the ballot. Royce previously served as the first-ever Chief Equity Officer for the City of Atlanta, working with city leaders, researchers and community members to develop a policy agenda addressing structural drivers of inequality. Royce served as the policy director for Sylvester Turner’s successful 2015 campaign for Mayor of Houston, and for Wendy Davis’s 2014 campaign for Texas governor. She has worked in both houses of Congress and as a policy analyst with a public policy research institution focusing on issues of concern to communities of color. Royce is a sixth-generation Texan.
